Scale of Model

The solar system is immensly vast and our model only shows the proportional sizes of the planets.

The scale of system is: 1 inch = 3166 miles (5095 km)

At this scale the sun would be 273 inches in diameter or 22.75 feet!

To create a true scale model of the solar system with both the size of the planets and the distance between them, the planets would need to be spaced apart as follows (as measured from whatever one used as a sun):

Distance Actual Orbit Actual Orbit
from Sun radius (miles) radius (km)
Mercury 947 ft 36,008,461 57,950,000
Venus 1,768 ft 67,176,440 108,110,000
Earth 2,446 ft 92,938,489 149,570,000
Moon 6 ft (from Earth) 238,857 384,403
Mars 3,726 ft 141,573,212 227,840,000
Jupiter 2.4 miles 483,513,780 778,140,000
Saturn 4.4 miles 886,696,691 1,427,000,000
Uranus 8.9 miles 1,783,521,733 2,870,300,000
Neptune 13.9 miles 2,796,108,228 4,499,900,000
